More Exposure

At the Mayor's office w/ Maam Juvy and the Protocol Office
As we get deeper into the project, bond with clients and team, and figure out where to go around town... any extra time to blog is getting squeezed more and more.

Thurs was a very eventful day.  We met with our main HR client, the Officer in Charge (OIC), "Maam Juvy," to discuss our due diligence to-date and (re-)establish priorities and cadence for reporting our findings and recommendations.  We settled on a plan to submit our outputs weekly and review on Wed AM for the next 2 weeks before we summarize our final deliverable/s.  It's all coming together!

During our lunch break we went back to the Cooking Institute and made another visit to the Magellan Cross and Basilica Minor del Santo Nino (just across the square from the office).  We bought some candles and got a blessing "dance" for our and our loved ones well-being, safe travels and project success.

In the afternoon was time for our first trip...  to an emergency hospital in the mountain, about an hour's drive away.  We joined a a group of nursing students from Victoria BC, Canada, who are doing a practicum in the CCMC for 6 wks.  The Guba (meaning "destroyed," "ruined" in English) area is set on a beautiful mountain top amidst tropical vegetation (see pics below).

The Community Hospital is being remodeled and looks like it will be quite nice and modern when finished.   The Dept of Nursing staff is so very kind also.

The Guba Community Hospital
Gorgeous views

Along the almost 1-hr drive to Guba we had an opportunity to see how many in this area live - in small shacks / huts, some larger shared houses, a fancy "gated community style" complex...  Lots of clothes lines, little goats, skinny cows, and potato fields on the hillside added to the landscape.   The narrow road offered more interesting maneuvers as our large bus encountered jeepneys, motorbikes, and other vehicles.

Last stop was to the University of San Carlos for the nursing students to make a visit to the Dean.  We walked around and goofed around with our clients.

Btw, note the University rules to the right - quite telling of the culture and forward looking to capture life's priorities...

  1. So glad you're able to meet some Canucks (Canadians) on your travels! The visit to the hospital brought to mind the new show on TV called "Off the Map". While the client work is rewarding, I'm sure you're finding that the side trips and cultural experiences provide a very different and fulfilling experience,
