"Shiny Happy People"

It's Saturday, May 14, 2011 and bright and early we are off to Mactan Island with the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) Nursing Service for their "Wet and Wild Summer Escapade," and do they know how to have fun!

Tati, Nora, Janet, Garima, and I were fortunate to be invited as guests and are most grateful to our generous hosts.  Special Thanks to RC and Wena, and of course the Dept of Nursing!

Puso and Adobo
The morning started with pork adobo and puso (hanging rice) for breakfast - very rich and traditional, and good preparation for the feast we would have for lunch later - lechon (suckling pig) and all...

The event was held at the Cebu Marine Beach Resort - absolutely gorgeous and the first chance for us to swim in the ocean.  Amazing!

Cebu Marine Beach Resor
The Nursing Team played volleyball, took lots and lots of pictures, and swam some before lunch (incredibly delicious!) and then the festivities began.  Fantastic team building and appreciation, laughter and community bonding like I haven't seen.

We heard the song "Shiny Happy People" when we got to the resort and I couldn't help but think of how fitting that description was for our group, full of genuine smiles, out pore of friendship and emotion, and contagious laughter.

There were several games - including:
* a rally where each person passed a lifesaver from their straw to the next
* two teams of 15 people each, arranging accordingly to several criteria like height, size, age, beauty and wealth - the last 2 requiring creative justifications to score points
* a slide the straw in the bottle, which is entirely too much to explain in a blog, gotta experience it to believe it.

With Miss SummerFest 2011
A Miss SummerFest 2011was crowned, too, and I had the honor of asking the tough question to qualify the winner from the top 4 selected contenders.  Hilarious yet again and more sincere laughter and happy energy than one would thing could fit in a single afternoon.

Congratulations to the deserving winner!

We were sad to leave the party early, but excited to skip town on our way to Bohol to join the rest of the CSC team, who had traveled the night before.

Off to the ferry we went - thank to Mrs Michelle for driving us all the way to the Pier, and not only managing traffic and heat raising to >47C, but also giving us a tour of the Park... Mall and her husband's Coca-Cola Distribution business.
