Meeting the Clients

Monday morning, here we come!

The team looked fresh and ready for business when I came downstairs for breakfast before we headed out for our kick-off meeting with our local clients.

CSC-Philippines 10... pleased to meet the representatives from Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI), Cebu Educational Development Foundation for IT (Cedf-IT), Department of Science and Technology at the University of the Philippines in Cebu's Technology Business Incubator (DOST-UP Cebu TBI),  and several departments from the Cebu City Government - Management Information Computer Services (MICS), Human Resources Development Office (HRDO), and City Engineer's Office.

David and Gaby w/out clients...
City Government HR Dept w/ Tatiana and Nora
The latter "Dept of Engineering and and Public Works (DEPW)" is my client, and unfortunately our focal contact / sponsor was held up at a meeting and was not able to make it, so we've deferred our orientation to Tues AM.

Cebu City Government MICS w/ Garima and Jane
TBI CebuInIt w/ Giovanna and Dani
IBM's Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs leader in the Philippines - Ms Chestnut - introduced the
program, and Anna

RAFI w/ Falk, Phil and Alexis
     Saxby from ABV
     introduced the volunteers,
     each of the IBM CSC
     participants gave a brief
     overview of  our IBM roles,
     skills, personal  interests and
     hobbies, and our  aspirations
     reasons for joining the CSC...

Finally we heard from each of the client teams about their mission, project and challenges.  After another delicious lunch, we headed out to work w/ our respective teams.

Waya and Anna took me and David to the DEPW office for a sneak preview and since our contact was still in her work session, we took the opportunity to walk around the area and visit some of Cebu's most famous landmarks: Magellan's Cross (left) and the Basilica del Santo Nino (center and right).

  1. The cathedral is gorgeous. Are many of the people Catholic? Dad had a speaker at Methodist Men's Club this week who is married to a lady from Cebu. They run a medical mission out of Lebanon to assist folks in Laytie ( sp?).
