Moving forward with eagerness to absorb as many experiences and using the senses tirelessly. Manila was a rich tapestry of contrasts - the gorgeous church and wedding on the backdrop of poverty, like I hadn't seen before... fancy mall vs. people sleeping on the ground or in hammocks right along the busy roads... I am sure we'll see more, and likely a whole lot.
Waya and Anna, who are our
Australian Business Volunteers (ABV) coordinators are terrific, and have been preparing us to deal with all sorts of realities while in the Philippines. Under the commitment to "strengthen businesses and communities," we are getting all sorts of guidance to help us settle in and get ready for our assignments, when the work starts Mon.
We had our first program briefing with Waya and Anna at a coffee shop next door to the hotel in Manila – love the genuine and open conversation, and practical approach to making sure we are prepared for success and head into it with an open mind and a smile.
